Silva Psychology offers regular consultation support to all special educational needs co-ordinators across schools in both state and independent sectors.
The key areas for SENCO support have often included:
- Supporting the SENCo to address school and/or parental concerns regarding individual children’s progress
- Auditing individual pupil needs throughout the school, mapping and co-ordinating provision to accelerate pupil progress
- Learning about and planning the implementation of specific learning or social interventions (e.g. precision teaching; circle of friends; self-esteem group intervention).
- Improving the schools’ assessment of low level special educational needs (e.g. literacy; behavioural assessment)
- Having morning SENCo surgeries to problem solve or address a range of child, group or whole school issues
- Understanding the nature of a range of special educational needs and identifying strategies to address them
- Jointly compiling or contributing towards teacher training or information for class teachers to better meet the SEN needs of children in their classes.
- Preparing statutory assessment requests and reviewing evidence
- Working together on whole school development projects (e.g. raising pupil’s awareness of Autism or social communication difficulties; reducing/managing bullying)
